Pitt Football Recruiting News and Notes
The question Pitt football fans want to know is, who will be Pat Narduzzi’s next verbal commitment for the Class of 2016. In the last 24 hours, DreamBackfield.com caught up with a bunch of Pitt targets who revealed some new information.
Here are some of the highlights of what they told me:
1) Zack Gilbert, DE, (Charlotte, NC):
—Top Five still remains (no order): Pitt, Va Tech, North Carolina, Duke and West Virginia. However, Gilbert told me that he’s adding Kansas State to that list
—Next visit that he’ll take will be to Virginia Tech
—Has decided that he wants to commit on either August 21st or September 11th.
2) Rashad Wheeler, DT (Central Catholic H.S.):
—Tells DreamBackfield.com that he’ll be visiting West Virginia on July 25th and then
Maryland sometime later this month.
—Will make his college decision after making his visit to Maryland.
3) Damar Hamlin, CB (Central Catholic H.S.):
—-Has no upcoming visits planned
—-Top 10 is the same but starting to look at Stanford, Arizona State, Tennessee and Maryland
—-Hasn’t felt close to making a final decision but when he does it will be based on 3 things: 1) “the fit for my family. Do my parents like it and can they come to the games.”

3) Great facilities
—-Did confirm to me that he and Seton LaSalle star Paris Ford will attend the same college. Hamlin said, “Yes that’s true. He’s like a brother to me but that’s not the only reason I want to play with him in college. He’s a great athlete and we both lost a friend a few years back to gun violence and we both would like to do it for him.”
—-I asked him if his parents have a place that they’d like him to play. He said “Yes, LOL.” As expected he wouldn’t tell me where.
4) Anthony Long, DT, Harrisburg, PA:
—Had a chance to talk with Long this morning and asked him where his recruitment stood, and he told me, “I verbaled to Pitt.” I then asked him if that’s the case, why hasn’t he received the “Pat Signal” from Coach Narduzzi? Long told me, “Just wait on it.” Following my talk with Long, I asked a high-ranking source at Pitt about Long who just said, “He is not a commitment to Pitt.” Very strange situation.
5) Carlos Basham, DE, Roanoke, VA:
—Will be announcing his college decision tonight at 6:00 PM. Basham will be deciding between Pitt, Wake Forest, Cincinnati and Maryland.
