Where’s Pitt Stand With Lugg?
Since receiving his first scholarship offer, 2017 North Allegheny 4-star OT Josh Lugg has been viewed as a Pitt lean. Why not, both of his parents are graduates of Pitt and Lugg has been a lifelong Panther fan.
Unfortunately for Pat Narduzzi and his staff, securing a commitment from Lugg won’t be as easy as saying “Hail to Pitt!”
Reason for that is Lugg will be one of the top offensive lineman in the entire country. The 6-6, 260 pound tackle already has offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, UCLA, Michigan State, Tennessee, Va Tech, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Northwestern, Duke and Boston College.
This past week, Lugg and his family took the time to visit Notre Dame, Tennessee and Virginia Tech and I asked him about the experience.
Notre Dame: “I had the opportunity to talk with the coaches and get the academic side of the school.”
Tennessee: “Made it to the Orange Carpet Day event. That was really fun….The facilities are amazing there.”
Virginia Tech: “That was just a short visit to be able to meet all the coaches and tour the facilities. Also, the campus was beautiful.”
So with all this attention and offers from the top schools in the country is Lugg still enjoying this or is the pressure mounting? “I’m still having fun”, Lugg said. “It’s a great opportunity and I’m trying to make the most of it while it lasts.”
So with all this attention from some of the bigger programs in the country, where does Pitt stand with Lugg?
“Pitt was my first offer but that was through the past coaching staff (now at Wisconsin). When the new staff came in they still honored my offer. They bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to recruitment and to football….Coach Narduzzi is making the Pitt program great again.”, said Lugg.
As you’d imagine, Lugg doesn’t have a leading school right now and that “everyone is even at this time in my recruitment.” However, when I followed up with, “If you had to pick 3 schools that interest you the most right now?” Lugg replied, “Notre Dame, Tennessee and Pitt only because I speak with the coaches from those schools the most often. Doesn’t mean they’re ahead of any other schools.”
Lugg says that although he’s being recruited by schools to play offensive tackle he can also play tight end, center or offensive guard.
Will Lugg be like some 2017 recruits and commit early ? “I will commit when I know I can make the absolute best decision.” He went on to say, “Committing to a school is a life decision. When I commit to a school I am dedicated to that school. There will be no de -commitment.”
