Wade Keeping An Eye On Pitt
The WPIAL Class of 2017 got a huge endorsement yesterday when one of its members received a huge honor.
Clairton cornerback Lamont Wade was named the #5 overall prospect in the country for 2017 by Rivals.com. With that ranking, Wade is the highest rated WPIAL prospect since Terrelle Pryor back in 2008. Seton-LaSalle safety Paris Ford was also ranked the #33 prospect by the recruiting site.
If if you know anything about Wade, he’s a kid that’s motivated not just to be good but to be the best. After receiving the honor, Wade told DreamBackfield.com, “It mean’t a lot, I worked really hard for it and I’m blessed to have that achievement.” Despite all this attention, the talented sophomore is going to take the advice of his father and stay humble and keep working hard.
Now the question everybody wants to know is what school will Wade select? It’s still early but he already has visits lined up for this summer, “I plan on visiting Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia Tech and UCLA, maybe Auburn.”
Pitt fans don’t worry, Wade has his eye on the Panthers too. “I’m very excited to see what Pitt will do this season. I really like the coaching staff and the energy they’re bringing in.”
Wade told me that the coach from the Pitt staff that’s made the biggest impression on him is running back coach Andre Powell, “he’s visited the most at the school and he was the first recruiter on me.”
Regardless of who Wade selects don’t look for an early commitment. The plan is to make his decision next August or September.
Is Pitt a serious contender for him? “Pitt has always been a consideration, Wade said. “If everything pans out well, Pitt will be in my Top 5 come commitment day.”
