Jimmy Medure Thrilled To Be A Pitt Panther

Pitt director of player personnel Dan Kabala scouts a number of quality preferred walk-on candidates for the football program. New Castle (PA) New Castle Senior High School athlete Jimmy Medure (6-foot-3 inches, 210 pounds) has been solidly on his radar for nearly a year. As letter of intent day approached, Kabala was able to lure Medure to Pittsburgh for an on-campus visit and solidify a commitment.

“I’m thrilled to be a Panther. I can’t wait to get down there and get started,” stated Medure. “Pitt started recruiting me in the spring time. I would receive letters from them and I attended a few of their camps. The letters were great because they told you about the perks of being a student-athlete at Pitt.”

“After one of Pitt’s prospect camps, Coach Kabala got my information and kept in touch with me. He told me he wanted me to walk-on the team. He felt that I had a lot to offer the team. Pitt is roughly an hour away from my house and it’s my hometown school. I looked forward to going down for a visit.”

“I visited Pitt during the season. I went to the Georgia Tech game to get a feel for the game day experience. When I went down to visit in February and see the school, I fell in love with it. I knew Pitt is where I needed to be.”

Medure is a solid 210 lbs. on a rangy 6-foot-3 inch frame. He stated that Pitt would like him to start his career at outside linebacker. Jimmy is capable of running a 4.6 forty-yard dash, bench pressing 300 pounds and squatting 400 pounds.

When asked about his strengths at the linebacker position, he stated, “I’m used to setting everyone up on defense. I’m like an instructor on the field. I can lay a hit one someone if I have to. I’m an agile guy on the edge. I like to think of myself as an athletic linebacker.”

Medure had the opportunity to sit down with Pitt defensive coordinator Josh Conklin and linebackers’ coach Rob Harley. They reviewed Pitt’s defensive with him and analyzed where he best fit. “I really like Coach Harley,” said Medure. “His energy and excitement are infectious. He’s the type of guy you want to get in the game and play for.”

“I want to get to Pitt this summer and start working hard on earning my spot of the team. I had an offer from Air Force, but I really wanted to go to Pitt,” said Medure. “I want to get a feel for D1 speed during practices. I know nothing will be handed to me. I’m going to work very hard to earn a scholarship and help the team.”
