Pitt drops its second straight home game with a 48-45 loss to Virginia. The Cavs were led by guard Malcolm Brogdon, who scored 16 points including the game’s decisive 3 pointer as time expired.

The game was a hard fought contest but Virginia’s talent and superior athleticism was the difference. The Cavs shot 40% from the floor on 19-47 shooting including 33% from behind the arc.

Pitt continued to struggle as star winger Lamar Patterson was held to just 10 points on 3-14 shooting. Patterson also struggled against Duke in the previous game and has received little to no help from the remaining starting lineup for the Panthers.

The lone bright spot for Pitt was reserve freshman forward Jamel Artis, who scored 11 points on 3-7 shooting.

But despite the see-saw battle throughout, Virginia owned the paint and the boards with 33 rebounds while scoring the vast majority of their shots inside.

Pitt will try to regroup against Miami tomorrow night at Miami but looks like a long shot for the ACC title this season.
